Free Football Tips For Saturday 25th February

An early kick off in Croatia this afternoon, in keeping with yesterday’s game I can’t imagine that there’ll be many goals in this game. I’ve also got two games from the Jupiler Pro League on the list but I’ve got to run a couple of errands before I can take a closer look at those.

Slaven Koprivinica v Cibalia 2:00pm GMT

Another game that looks like it could be a defensive battle. Slaven went into the winter break having kept four consecutive clean sheets but they aren’t the type of team that will batter the opposition: 2-0 would be considered a goal fest at the tiny Gradski Stadium.

The head to head record is pretty decisive – Cibalia probably won’t win – and there won’t be many goals either. In the 18 head to head meetings at the Gradski, there have only been three games that have finished with over 3.5 goals. Those games are the only ones that also finished with over 2.5 goals.

Recommendation: under 3.5 goals, but under 2.5 goals would probably work just as well

Result: Slaven Koprivinica 0, Cibalia 1.

Belgian Jupiler Pro League (7:00pm)

Gent v Mons

In the five league meetings between the two sides at Gent going back to September 2002, Mons haven’t won a single one – they managed a goalless draw in October 2003 – and although they’re probably out of danger of relegation, they’ve got nothing left to play for until the Europa League stages begin. Gent are in a similar position: they’re more or less assured of continuing in the Championship group so it’s a case of treading water for the moment.

Recommendation: Gent need to generate some momentum going into the Champions League playoffs and although I can’t see them losing this, I’m far from convinced that they’ll win. Mons have been really poor recently – seven losses in their last ten league games – and they don’t need to worry about relegation. Lay Mons.

Also recommended: over 1.5 goals. Mons have the second worst away defensive record in league.

Result: Gent 2, Mons 0 – although the second goal came in injury time!
