nPower Championship Tips 31st January 2012

31 Jan

Two for tonight’s round of games – both Coventry and Doncaster have just sold their leading strikers and may struggle.

Blackpool v Coventry City

Blackpool are tonight’s home bankers. I looked at this game from multiple angles I can’t see any reason why Blackpool shouldn’t win this. Coventry haven’t won at Bloomfield Road since (ahem) March 1923 and although they’re generally managing to keep it tight away from home, they’ve lost ‘to nil’ in half of their away games this season. The hosts have one of the better home defences in the Championship this season and can get back into the playoff places with a win.

Recommendation: back Blackpool outright, lay Coventry City draw no bet (the odds are slightly better)

Result: Blackpool 2, Coventry 1. The visitors actually took the lead.

Hull City v Doncaster Rovers

Caught my eye a probable home win, but strangely enough there’s enough evidence to suggest a draw is also possible at the KC Stadium – the hosts have scored one goal or less in seven of their thirteen games at the own patch this season, which is hardly the stuff of decisive victories. This is also only their second home game against sides in the current bottom six in the Championship, so it’s hard to tell from that single game what the outcome might be.

Historically it’s far easier. Doncaster haven’t won at Hull since 1950. The only black swan is that Doncaster haven’t drawn away from home this season and Hull haven’t drawn at home: the draw is waiting to happen.

Recommendation: lay Doncaster Rovers.

Result: Hull 0, Doncaster 0

Mulitples: you can back both for around 2.5-2.6 pre-kick off, so given their current win prices it’s probably worth laying both them using the same kind of tiered lays I described yesterday – especially as I think that Hull/Doncaster could be a low scoring game.
